Port Terminal “Odesos PBM – Varna” holds a Port Registration Certificate and an Operational Fitness Certificate valid until 2055. The terminal operates four berths with a total quay length of 648 meters and a maximum safe draft of 12.50 meters.
It is located in the eastern part of Varna Lake, along Navigation Canal No. 3 (the Old Navigation Canal of Varna). In terms of meteorological conditions and environmental setting, the terminal benefits from a more favorable position compared to all ports located further west in the region.
Situated in immediate proximity to Varna Railway Marshalling Yard, the terminal ensures railway maneuvering operations with the shortest shunting distance in the region and at the lowest cost.
The port is classified as a multipurpose terminal based on the relative share of cargo types handled. At present, dry bulk cargoes and general cargoes in all their varieties hold an equal share of total throughput. Specialized facilities have been developed for handling glass in crates and for fertilizer bagging. Cargo handling zoning is determined according to warehouse type and the adaptation of each warehouse to the specific cargo type and handling method. In addition to vessel parcel operations, the terminal also performs containerization and decontainerization of dry bulk and general cargo.
The machinery fleet consists of established world-renowned manufacturers with proven quality and operational reliability, ensuring high operational readiness and sustainability of port activities. The equipment enables handling of large cargo units, high loading cycles, and precise positioning during quay, warehousing, and internal terminal operations.
In December 2025, Phase One of the Port Master Plan was commissioned, including a new berth capable of accommodating vessels up to 230 meters in length with a safe draft of 12.50 meters, additional warehouse areas, a modern cargo sampling zone equipped with automated probes, new truck scales, and a second entry-exit gate. These developments significantly increase the terminal’s throughput capacity, operational efficiency, and logistical flexibility.
